The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design: A Pricey Foldable Phone

Huawei has recently unveiled the Mate XT Ultimate Design, the world’s first dual-hinged, triple-screen foldable phone. However, the cost of this innovative device leaves much to be desired. With prices starting at 19,999 yuan in China (equivalent to about $2,809), the Mate XT is certainly not an affordable option for the average consumer. In fact, it is roughly $300 more expensive than a brand-new 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Despite its hefty price tag, the Mate XT does come equipped with some impressive features. Boasting an inverse dual-hinge design that folds in a “Z” shape, the device can be used in multiple configurations. The OLED display measures 6.4-inches when fully collapsed, expanding to 10.2-inches when fully unfolded. Additionally, the phone features a 5,600mAh battery and supports fast charging capabilities of up to 66W wired or 50W wirelessly.

One of the standout features of the Huawei Mate XT is its camera setup. The device sports a triple camera system on the rear, consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope camera. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera located on the left-most screen when the device is fully unfolded.

While the Mate XT has garnered significant interest in China, with 3.7 million preorders reported before pricing was even announced, its availability outside of the country remains unclear. Huawei has yet to confirm if the device will be released in other markets, leaving consumers outside of China in limbo.

Overall, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is an impressive piece of technology with innovative features and capabilities. However, its exorbitant price tag may deter many potential buyers looking for a more affordable option in the foldable phone market. As Huawei continues to push the boundaries of smartphone technology, it will be interesting to see how the Mate XT is received by consumers worldwide.
